Learn all the basics to get you started on your fashion journey AND have a set of blocks that perfectly fit your body. Working with Helen Rhiannon's DRESSMAKING - The Easy Guide reference book, this 6 week course will demystify dressmaking AND have you making clothing that fits your body - no matter your shape or size.

This course requires the book: Dressmaking - The Easy Guide, which is available for purchase in-store or here. Other materials such as sewing supplies, cardboard for pattern making and more, will be available in-store through out the course duration. you will also require:
Over 6 consecutive Fridays for Round 2, or 3 weekend blocks for ROund 3, sessions (each day is 6 hours in duration) - we will teach you:
Week One - Learn how to take accurate measurements and learn about proportion and body length. Make a paper pattern block, create a toile and make adjustments to suit your body shape. Complete customised bodice and skirt blocks.
Week Two - Complete a dress block from your customised bodice and skirt blocks. Learn more about fitting techniques on the body - learning from the everyone's different fit issues - in a small and friendly group setting. Bring a sewing pattern of your choice and customise to to fit your own dimensions. Create a simplified toile of your pattern. Transfer fit markings onto your paper pattern, ready for you to sew at home.
Week Three - Trace a pattern from an existing garment (eg. your favourite T-shirt or skirt), using drafting and flow-through techniques. Make a new pattern for your garment. Make a toile.
Week Four - Flat pattern sleeve drafting
Week Five - Select a garment design/pattern to make a custom fit garment. Create a new or adapt an existing pattern - ready for you to make a toile at home.
Week Six - Customise your toile, start your garment
